Dear City Commissioners:
My name is Patty McGown, I am a tax paying and voting resident and I live at 222 S 13th Avein Bozeman. Thank you for all your time and dedication to Bozeman.
Recently I read that the Gallatin County Market Snapshot just cited a 15% vacancy rate
for rentals! That’s good news. Now to watch for rents to come down!
This supports my next requests.
The shallow and deep incentives as written are deeply flawed. Everyone drives a car, many
adults have 2 cars, and bikes, and skis, and maybe a motorcycle, or a boat, too. People havelots of stuff. Please do not contribute to the problem and reduce parking requirements. That is
a short sighted incentive. I’ve lived in cities without adequate parking and this creates manynegative scenarios and intense emotions like anger and frustration. Additionally, humans need
sunlight. Please do not allow added stories and allow buildings to be taller. Taller buildingblock the sun humans need sunlight to support mental health.
I’ll cut to the chase. Remove the shallow and deep incentives entirely from the AHO as the
impacts on residents and neighborhoods is too numerous to count. It’s bad policy.Incentivizing affordable housing can be a win-win for all, not just the developers.
Pledge to prevent any new development projects that request any incentives from being
approved. The incentives as written are flawed.
It behooves all of us to stop the approval process using any incentives while the UDC is beingreconsidered and re-written, and assess all the development processes with the help of
community involvement. The momentum is here. Residents want to contribute and be heard.
It may be challenging, and it will be the best for Bozeman if the development process isslowed down for as long as it takes to write a code and make it fit for Bozeman. Thank you.
Standing by,
Patty McGown
