Re: Written public comment for the Tuesday, Aug 20 Commission Meeting City of Bozeman Commissioner: I never expected to get involved as a volunteer petition-gatherer starting in June but I changed my mind after reading the "single-use plastics" petition. This is a legitimate reason for regulation of retail plastic bags, styrofoam foodware and straws/stir sticks to protect our environment and health for all. But this was only to get the initiative on the ballot for ALL City of Bozeman registered voters to decide yes or no. During my time collecting signature, I was encouraged over and over again by thepeople supporting the cause. As well as, many from the surrounding areas (Bozeman, Belgrade, Manhattan, etc.) that stated they wished they could sign. And even more impressive, were the people recognizing and supporting the non use of plastics by using their own bags at the stores. After gathering over 10K signatures (unfortunately representing many Bozeman & county voters), please put this initiative on the November ballot for ALL City of Bozeman voters to decide for themselves and not a decision made by ourgovernment leaders.
