I would like to express my frustration and disillusionment with our leaders after the city commissioners meeting last night. Most notably, I do not understandwhy the city was asked by the commissioners to spend several months and hundreds of man hours collecting data about the situation and conducting a surveyfrom the public, only for two members to openly disregard the thoughtful information and recommendations presented. Joey Morrison's response wasparticularly shocking and unprofessional for somebody in his position - eye rolling at public comments and claiming that citizens' main concern is that urbancamping is an "eyesore" is incredibly disrespectful. Our concerns go far beyond the superficial; they were presented in detail by the city attorney that Joeyapparently chose to ignore.
The response from the survey made it very clear that the majority of the public is NOT in favor of urban camping, yet Joey completely disregards this for hisown agenda? How is this in line with the oath he took when being sworn into office? How does it fit with the description of the mayor's role on the citywebsite? (See below).
Joey made it very clear last night that his focus and primary concern is not the general public but rather a very small group with whom he empathizes.
I expect that Joey will ignore these complaints similar to others that do not align with his personal agenda, but I hope those around him can mentor him untilhe matures enough to understand that his position is to serve others, not himself.
I am happy to answer any follow-up questions.
Thank you for your time,
Kristin Armer
