HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-07-24 Pulbic Comment - Petition to Remove Items G.12 and G.15 off the August 6 City Commission Consent Agenda Petition to Request the Following Actions from Bozeman CityCommission on August 6 2024 g We,the undersigned City of Bozeman voters, propose the Bozeman City Commission take the following actions at the August 6,2024 Commission Meeting: 1. Remove Items G.12(Resolution 5604,to Adopt Fiscal Year 2025-2029 CDBG Consolidated Housing Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development)and G.15(Resolution 5626,Adopting the Bozeman City Commission Priorities for 2024 and 2025)from the Consent Agenda. 2. With regard to Item GA 2(Resolution 5604,to Adopt Fiscal Year 2025-2029 CDBG Consolidated Housing Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development),opt to defer Bozeman's entitlement status for at least one year until city staff can definitively answer if electing to become an entitlement jurisdiction would mean that the City of Bozeman would be granted less funding than could otherwise be procured through state-level CDBG funding. Furthermore, the cost of hiring a CDBG Administrator significantly diminishes the available entitlement funds and puts further strain on the city's General Fund to subsidize this position. Finally, the input from the city's boards, which was taken into consideration by the commission, is biased.Sara Savage of HRDC,who currently sits on the city's Economic Vitality Board should have been required to recuse herself from discussion and voting on the Consolidated Plan,a program from which HRDC clearly stands to benefit. 3. In regard to item GA 5(Resolution 5626,Adopting the Bozeman City Commission Priorities for 2024 and 2025),we ask that the Commission Priorities be moved to a future commission agenda as an Action Item, after they have been published on the city's social media and website for at least two weeks for clear, easily accessible, and transparent review bythe members of this community, and where Bozeman residents will have sufficient time to provide public comment both before and at the meeting. Deputy Mayor,Joey Morrison, and co-founder of Bozeman Tenants United, should,at a minimum, be required to disclose his prior involvement with this group prior to advocating for their requests, and should not use his position of power to influence the commission to support his prior volunteer efforts. WARNING A person who purposefully signs a name other than the person's own name to this petition, who signs more than once for the same issue at one election,or who signs when not a legal resident of the City of Bozeman, may be subject to a$500 fine,6 months in jail,or both. Each person is required to sign his or her name and list their address or telephone number,or their signature will not be counted. In place of residence address, the signer may provide his or her post office address or home telephone number.
