Zehra:
Thank you for reaching out about the upcoming Fowler Road work session.
In answer to your questions, City Commission work sessions are generally formatted in
the following manner:
1. A staff presentation / update regarding the work session topic - and options
presented for possible next steps for the commission to consider.
2. Questions of staff from the City Commission - drilling down on details and getting
clarifications. As a note, this is also where City Commissioners will often pose
questions based upon what they have heard / read from submitted written public
comment and oral public comment from previous commission meetings.
3. Public comment opened to receive input from those in the room or those joining
remotely.
4. After the close of public comment and any clarifications from staff, the
commission provides next step directions and adds any comments they believe
are helpful to staff and to the public.
I hope that answers your questions in terms of the flow of the work session. If I've
misinterpreted your question, please let me know.

Honorable Mayor, Deputy Mayor, City Commissioners, and City Staff,
Friends of Fowler Connector (FFC) is looking forward to providing public comment on the Fowler Avenue
Connection project and the July 16, 2024 City Commission Meeting work session.
When the work session happens, is there a way for the meeting to be designed to allow the public to
comment after hearing the discussion between commissioners and staff? And then, after the public provides
comment pertinent to this discussion, the commissioners could then direct city staff?
The reason this idea has come up among FFC members is that it would facilitate very informed input from
the public — i.e. informed by the discussion they witness between commissioners and staff. This would also
allow the public to better understand and demystify government roles and responsibilities, relationship
between the commission and staff, and the decision-making process.
Respectfully,
Zehra Osman
