Herring - The GuthrieFrom:herrboz@aol.com To:Bozeman Public Comment Subject:[EXTERNAL]The Guthrie Date:Tuesday, July 9, 2024 11:22:01 AM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. I am requesting that the city commission reject the Guthrie proposal. Once again, the neighborhood is united against the proposal. Once again, Home Base uses its knowledge of the ins and outs of development codes to build the maximum size building possible. This time, they exploit the new deep incentives for affordable housing. I am sure that they have followed the letter of the law, and that they have legions of attorneys who can argue their case and darkly hint at legal action. This is becoming the norm with Home Base developments. And yet: this is clearly wrong for Bozeman. The Guthrie is not affordable housing. Building the Guthrie will not stop sprawl. No one who actually lives in the area wants this type of development. Indeed, when I listen to public comment on Home Base proposals, most of the people in favor of them seem to be Home Base employees.Bozeman is changing, and growing, and I know that that is inevitable. But it's not inevitable that it grow in such a way that we sacrifice our downtown and our neighborhood character (my neighborhood's character) to benefit a rapacious developer and his wealthy investors who build luxury condos for people who will behere for a few weeks a year. The commission has the power to reject this proposal. I say: take a stand. Mike Herring 313 N Grand
