Dear Mayor Cunningham and Esteemed City Council Members,
We have lived on North 3rd Ave. for close to 40 years. We raised our family here and have
appreciated the neighborhood community. We write in support of our friends and all the folksliving in Midtown, where nearly everyone knows your name. For years the housing has been
relatively affordable, but now wealthy developers are changing that dynamic.
The deep incentives are being exploited by the developers and are detrimental to the existingneighborhood. The excessive development of high end housing will increase homelessness, as
seen in Seattle, San Francisco and Minneapolis. The code must be changed to preventdegradation of existing neighborhoods.
My primary concern is for the safety of Whittier School children. The increased traffic
congestion will make drop-offs and pick-ups difficult and unsafe, as there will be no parkingspots. This is a huge liability and serious safety issue.
My second safety concern relates to the proposed demolition of the existing building and the
likely asbestos contamination that would result. An abatement plan should be mandatory toprotect the neighbors and children.
Keep Midtown affordable and safe.
Please deny the Guthrie Project.Respectfully.
Thomas J. Keck
