Dear City Commissioners, As a longtime resident of Bozeman, (48 years) I have seen and felt the growth and change in Bozeman. Yes, we need more affordable housing but the way the City is going about it is all wrong. Why is it that developers and investors have more to say in this mission with the City’s help in allowing relaxed building codes such as height( 5 stories). parking (37 parking spaces), the rest goes on the street of which could be 2-3 cars, trucks depending how many renters live in the apts., not to mention any additional RV, boat trailers etc., setbacks, no environmental considerations such as trees, water conservation and and the worst part is no public input until the citizens forced the issue. The so called Deep incentives for such buildings will put all the day to day burden on the existing neighborhood, Whittier Elementary School and clearly devaluing surrounding properties. The Guthrie is one ugly building. The most obvious issue is does the AFO realistically address affordability? The Guthrie proposal with its 360 sq ft studio apt that goes for $1,745 per month, does not promise affordability. Finally, if this how the City of Bozeman will handle Affordable Housing every established neighborhood will be threatened by a Guthrie. In conclusion the Guthrie proposal must be REJECTED.
