Dear Commissioners, Mayor, and Deputy Mayor,
Please deny the Guthrie Project 23354.
It has been said that this project checks off all the right boxes to be the first project in the city
to make use of the deep incentives program for affordable housing, if this is so, where is the
common sense? Do we intend to allow departures from city codes in return for below market
rate units that harm the community? This project requires no parking, negatively increases
traffic flow, reduces safety and will negatively impact a healthy neighborhood and school. This
project was approved with no public engagement. It doesn’t bring long-term, appropriately
sized, affordable housing for families.
The lack of adequate parking alone should prevent this project from moving forward. Most, if
not all, Montana families need at least one vehicle and a parking space to be a thriving
member of their community. This project creates deliberate parking overflow in a cyclically
congested neighborhood that can’t accommodate a permanent influx of parked vehicles and
traffic.
Please take this opportunity to deny the Guthrie project and revise the Affordable Housing
Ordinance to avoid this type of project in the future. Let’s ensure we provide affordable
housing that improves, or at least does not damage existing neighborhoods, promote long-
term housing and public engagement.
Thank You,
Patti Yasbek
