I am totally against this project, even though I know we need low-income housing and need to utilize
existing lots to go up.
This building is outrageous – the height, the lack of parking, traffic, noise, the disgusting tiny low-
income rooms that will still cost $1,600 a month, the location, and the negative impact on the
market values of all the residences around North 5th. I agree with your ideas about filling in lots, but
not in historical residential neighborhoods, that is occurring all over downtown area north, south,
central, ignoring sense of community. You need to consider community, landscaping, home heights,
the environment, and all the necessities of a Bozeman neighborhood.
Looking at the City Community Development Map Viewer, this project is bordered by two major
east-west thoroughfares Main Street, Peach Street and only a block away from commercial
businesses lining North 7th. North 6th doesn’t go through all the way so this makes all the 7th
commercial buildings more impactful to residences on 5th. On 5th where there are already two huge
projects only 3 blocks away on the corner of Main and 5th, the ELM on 7th reaches back to 6th and
5th because the Elm didn’t have required underground some sort of non-street parking. There is a
teachers’ parking lot next door to the Elm, and it gets packed at night, illegally for concert goers.
The Whittier elementary school is further north and not enough parking for them, nor all the
individual residents on 5th, . And on 7th is the motel that backs against – and their parking is a
nightmare and totally inadequate. Another motel backs this project behind the project.
Look at the map (https://gisweb.bozeman.net/Html5Viewer/?viewer=planning) which shows
hundreds of residences on North 5th and side streets Lamme, Beale, Villard, Short that will be
impacted by this development. There are tons of other vacant lands in all directions, just like was
done with low-income housing behind Lowes, in which my friend is enjoying a subsidized small
apartment that includes kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, patio, with hundreds of other
people, having similar.
Please stop this project!!!! And change your housing design desirability and requirements. Thank
you.
