Bozeman Commission,
My few comments are in opposition to approval of the Guthrie Building proposed for
construction on the corner of Villard & North 5th Avenue.
It is my understanding the developer has requested you allow him to provide only one parking
space for every four units in his development. The request makes the already inadequate
parking in the surrounding neighborhood that much more inadequate. The argument used
when the Commission approved the Elm development, also in this neighborhood, that concert
attendees would use public transportation has proved false. This is evidenced by vehicles
parked in red zones, in the alleys--as well across the mouth of the alleys, in front of fire
hydrants and covering much of resident driveways during performances. I am confident the
future tenants of the Guthrie building will not be using public transportation either. It is any
ones guess what they will decide is a 'legal' parking space.
The 'affordable housing' component of this development is anything but affordable to lower
income individuals given the size of the proposed units.
Please table this proposal & require the developer to provide two parking spaces per unit & to
include real 'affordable housing' units in his development. It is time the citizens stop being
required by Commission decisions to shoulder the cost savings given to developers such as
this one.
Sincerely,
Joyce Schmidt
