I want to join any number of concerned citizens to call for the rejection of the
Guthrie project as it is presented for the following reasons:
The delusional expectation that residents will not need parking. It seems
that Home Base is trying to sell that the residents will be happy to trek to
nearby work and shopping by foot or bike when it’s -30 F, snowy or
otherwise inclement. And the residents apparently are never expected to
recreate outside of the city since they will not have cars.
The size of the apartments is more like temporary shelter than affordable
housing. Is the city of Bozeman willing to accept that affordable housing is
tiny apartment housing?
The dubious method of defining affordable.
The lack of long-term means to assure that apartments will remain
“affordable”. I perceive no commitment by the builder on this front.
The size of the building would be more of the outsized ugliness that Home
Base has foisted upon this city.
Misusing the questionable Affordable Housing Ordinance to support a
project with this many drawbacks.
I remain suspicious that developers have excessive influence on the
commission to the continuing detriment of we established property owners. I
would love to be proved wrong.
