Dear Bozeman Commisioners,
Please accept this letter in support of city funding for HRDC year-round shelter operations: As
the Gallatin county has increased in population at a. expedited rate the resources have tried to
keep up. Under the Covid funding this was an easy transition. Under the new/old funding
resources available has evaporated quickly, suddenly, and often without warning. Individuals
utilizing shelter resources often do not have the opportunity or the skill to make proper
adjustments for the changing environment. This being said if Bozeman is serious about
continuing to grow at it’s current pace there is a level of responsibility that comes with these
goals. While it is unfair and difficult for the city of Bozeman to carry the burden of sheltering
Gallatin County homeless it is still a task that needs to continue to be addressed not just
dismissed because the “pandemic” has ended. If the county needs to chip in to make this
happen the city should extend a request and offer an olive branch to link the community
together. As a county we have an opportunity to think things out thoroughly and make well
planned decisions that can be sustainable. Hopefully, we move forward with a well-planned
thought process to help our homeless community members and increase the well being of our
community for years to come.
Sincerely,
James Wheeler
