I am writing to express my concern over the 'connecting Fowler' project, which needlessly
prioritizes vehicles over maintaining a well-used, existing bike/walking path.
As a local resident who drives the surrounding streets frequently, I fail to see the need to spendmillions of dollars on this particular area, where the city could use this money more effectively
elsewhere. I know of heavy opposition to the project, but I am curious to know why thisproject continues to be supported so aggressively by the city. Just because it was included in a
plan in the 90's does not mean it is relevant today.
The current plans feature a broad road and median (ecologically useless); if this project is tomove forward, it should be reduced massively in scope.
There is no precedent or need to space minor arterials exactly halfway between arterials. One
glance at the map on page 25 of the 2017 Transportation Master Plan(External link) showsthat this is not a consistent rule throughout the city and has no real basis. Ferguson, which is
also between the two arterials, is already being used in this capacity.
PLEASE make this an evidence-informed decision based on data.
PLEASE consider alternatives based on the evidence, such as downgrading Fowler’sfunctional classification in residential areas.
