I, and many other members of the Bozeman Public, feel strongly about this cause because we want to avoid more tenants becoming homeless in the city of Bozeman. Bozeman is an especially dangerous place to be homeless during the Fall and Winter months. While landlords often have legal representation when evicting tenants, most tenants facing evictions cannot afford legal representation, and cannot effectively make a case for themselves. With a tenants right to Counsel program, Bozeman would see fewer evictions, and fewer people becoming homeless. In the long run, taxpayer money would be saved, because the public wouldn't have to spend so much on shelters, medical care, and foster care for the people who would become unhoused if they were evicted.
