Re: Bozeman Tidal Wave Auto Spa – Utilities Report
________________________________________________________________________________________
This report addresses how water and sanitary sewer facilities were designed for the Tidal Wave
Auto Spa. These service laterals were designed to meet the Montana Public Works Standard
Specifications (MPWSS) and the City of Bozeman Engineering Division Standards.
This report will cover an introduction with general information about the project and info regarding
the existing conditions. This report will then move on to discuss the proposed water and sewer
improvements for this site and how each element was designed. For narrative and calculations
related to stormwater, see the separate Drainage Report.

Introduction
1.0 General Information
The project site is located in Bozeman, Montana on the northwest corner of North 19th Ave and
Valley Center Road and is in Gallatin County Subdivision Phase 1, Section 35, Township 1 South,
Range 5 East, Lot 2, Gallatin County, Montana.
The existing project site is an undeveloped lot with a sewer main running through the Northern
end of the property and a water main running through the Southern end of the property.
Figure #1: Project Site
The sewer and water system will be owned and operated by the business operator, Tidal Wave
Auto Spa.
The Engineer of Record for the sanitary sewer and water service laterals portion of this project is
Mike Russell, 59647PE, licensed in the State of Montana.

1.1 Existing Wastewater Facilities
The City of Bozeman’s existing sanitary sewer main is running from west to east within an existing
30’ public utility easement. This main line is identified as 24” diameter Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC)
pipe according to the Bozeman Infrastructure viewer. Along the sewer main alignment through
this property is a sewer manhole near the northeast. There is an assumption that a 10” stub exists
at this manhole, this assumption is based on pre-design meetings with the city. The current design
will tie into this existing stub for wastewater service. Additionally, this sewer main line will be
protected in place during construction activities but will be tied into for service connection.
1.2 Existing Water Facilities
The City of Bozeman’s existing water main is running west to east within an existing 30’ public
utility easement on the site property. This main line is identified as 12” diameter Ductile Iron (DI)
pipe according to the Bozeman Infrastructure viewer. There is no known accompanying water
appurtenances located on this property. This water main line will be protected in place during
construction activities but will be tied into for service connections.
There are no existing fire hydrants located on this property, with the nearest fire hydrant located
approximately 250 feet from the property line at the neighboring Residence Inn. This project will
install a new fire hydrant located near the wash tunnel exit.
Proposed Improvements
2.0 Gravity Sewer System Improvements
The gravity sewer system improvements include: a sewer service lateral to service the proposed
carwash building, which will tee two incoming lines from the carwash building. One service line
will be coming from the carwash’ s restrooms and the other line will come from the recirculation
tank. The proposed sewer service laterals shall maintain a minimum of 1% slope towards the
sewer main.
All proposed sewer services laterals for this site are proposed to be 6” in diameter. These laterals
will all feature cleanouts at bends that are present, as well as, upon entering the proposed
building, grease interceptor and comfort station. International Carwash Association (ICA), has
provided the building demand to be 17.7 GPM on average and 74.5 GPM at peak hour.
2.1 Water System Improvements
The water system improvements include a potable water service to the proposed building, as well
as a fire hydrant lateral/assembly to a proposed fire hydrant in a landscape island near the
carwash exit.

The proposed potable water service for the proposed building will tie into the existing water
main within public utility easement. This water service lateral is proposed to be 2” diameter.
Due to the nature of the proposed building, there is no proposed fire service later.
For the purposes of fire protection—this project will include a fire hydrant lateral/assembly within
a landscape island of the parking lot. This hydrant will have a line that runs south to tie into the
existing water main running through the property. This fire hydrant lateral will be 6” diameter.
ICA has provided the water demand for this project to be 20.8 GPM on average and 87.2 GPM
at peak hour.
For the purposes of landscape management - the site will incorporate landscape irrigation to
ensure the upkeep of its visual appeal. DJ&A Landscape architects have calculated an average
irrigation water demand of 20.8 GPM. This irrigation system is vital for sustaining the
landscaping's aesthetics and vitality, in line with the site's water management goals.
