Subject: Thank you for Fowler Ave Connection 30% design walkthrough, Jun 12, 2024
Dear Mr. Ross:
Thank you for leading Bozeman residents through the Fowler Ave Connection (FAC) 30%design walkthrough (approx.1.5 miles, 6pm - 9pm) on Jun 12, 2024. The walkthrough
extended from Oak St (north) to Durston Road to Babcock Street to Huffine Lane (south).Roughly 40 Bozeman residents participated, with some walking one or two sections and
some walking all three sections. At least part of the walkthrough and accompanyingdiscussion were covered by the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
Overall, the FAC 30% design walkthrough was an excellent example of City Staff
organizing and leading a boots-on-the-ground public engagement. For example, thewalkthrough allowed those of us participating to visualize where the proposed road, cross
streets, sidewalks, paved shared-use paths, and unpaved trails would potentially be locatedin relation to the 124-year-old (circa 1900) Section Line irrigation ditch and the ditch's
riparian area of self-sustaining cottonwood and willow trees. Moreover, the walkthroughallowed residents to ask questions about daily, seasonal, and annual motorized and non-
motorized traffic flow; about public safety issues (especially for kids); and about whichgroups of existing trees would be kept or lost because of construction. Finally, the
walkthrough allowed residents to ask about the potential for the City's Parks and ForestryDepts to become a partner in the design process from this point forward, with the idea of
the City planning for a Natural Area Park (with integrated bird sanctuary) or a natural areawithin another park type (e.g., within a Linear Park) in the final design.
Mr. Ross, thank you again for organizing and leading the Jun 12, 2024, FAC 30% design
walkthrough. Please feel free to share this "thank you" with all City Commissioners and CityStaff not cc'd below, as well as with all volunteer members of the Transportation Advisory
Board and the Urban Parks and Forestry Board.
Sincerely,Daniel Carty
