I have attached my written comment in support of Emma Bode's appointment to the BozemanCity Commission.
Best,
JacquelineShe/her
Honorable Mayor Cunningham,Deputy Mayor Morrison,Commissioner Madgic,and
Commissioner Fischer,
I am submitting written public comment to reaffirm my support for Emma Bodes’appointment
to this commission.
Emma is a prime example of a young person working tirelessly to better our Bozeman
community.Emma is a problem solver and solution generator. She has the impressive ability to
assess a problem from all perspectives and is consistently clear and grounded in her decision
making. In the 10 years that Emma has lived in Bozeman, she has been committed to our
community and has worked to make Bozeman a more socially equitable and climate considerate
town. This is massively impressive to see in a young person and her dedication is infectious.
Through my work with Emma in the Gallatin Valley Sunrise Hub,I have seen first-hand how she
brings people into the fight for climate justice and how she builds organizational power. She is a
beacon and inspiration for young people interested in making real change. In a college town like
Bozeman,we know how challenging it can be to engage young people in the decision making of
the commission.Emma not only brings the perspectives of a young renter to the table, but brings
with her a community of impassioned young people who are excited to engage in city
government.Emma has shown that she will show up for the needs of young people in our
community and I know that the values of young Bozemanites will be better represented with
Emma Bode on this commission.
When looking to fill the seat left vacant by Christopher Coburn,it is in the commission's best
interest to appoint an individual closely aligned with the constituents that Christopher
represented.Christopher was elected by a voter base in Bozeman that understood the importance
of diversity on this commission.Appointing a young, queer, progressive renter would honor
Bozeman voters’democratic choice in electing Commissioner Coburn.
I believe that Emma represents the best of what young people bring to community leadership and
I would be thrilled to see her representing me on this commission.Thank you,
Jacqueline Aaron
