I am writing to comment on the proposed Guthrie Project at 5th and Villard. The parking
allocation of 37 spaces for 111 units is insufficient. While it may meet the current criteria for
approval the parking allocation is not appropriate. The lack of parking will create issues inthe surrounding neighborhoods as people seek places to park. It is noted the developers
contend people residing in these units will use ride share and public transportation. Thatmay be true but most will still own vehicles. Each unit will likely have at least 1 vehicle and
need a parking space. People want to live in Bozeman and in Montana to experience ouramenities. There is a need to drive to many of them such as parks and trailheads and cars
are needed. Grocery shopping, doctors appointments at the hospitals, etc. are all muchmore achievable by having a vehicle to drive.
It seems unrealistic to expect that the majority of residents at the Guthrie would not bring a
car and need a parking spot. They very well may walk to work downtown but they still needa place to park the vehicle they will need for many other aspects of their life.
