I am delighted to have the opportunity to support Emma Bode’s appointment to the Bozeman City Commission. Emma’s track record of service to our community, her passion forconsensus building towards progressive change, and her lived experience as a renter looking to build a life in Bozeman make her leadership essential for our community’s current moment. Emma has a long history of bringing people together in service of a better Bozeman, from herwork with Forward Montana building power and lifting up representation of young people in our community, to her environmental leadership and vision with both the Gallatin ValleySunrise Movement and as a member of our City Sustainability Board. Emma has a deep empathy for everyone in our community, no matter where they are coming from. In our current turbulent environment, as folks of all backgrounds are grappling with thechallenges of a changing city, Emma’s compassion is absolutely needed in city leadership. As Bozeman grapples with our housing crisis, which is affecting every individual, family, neighborhood, and industry in our community, it is absolutely essential that renters, who areliving on the front lines of the housing crisis, are adequately represented in city leadership. With Christopher Coburn’s departure, the Commission is losing a renter perspective; it isnecessary that his important lived experience is adequately replaced. Emma Bode will tackle our city’s challenges with experience, compassion, and energy. She is the needed leader for this moment, and I hope that the Commission will recognize her capacityand qualifications, and elevate her to a position where everyone in our community can benefit from her immense qualities.
