Dear Mayor and Commissioners, I am very pleased to have known Emma Bode since her student days organizing the Sustainability Now (SNow) student club at Montana State University. She always impressedme with her organizational skills, dedication, passion, and leadership qualities. As you may know, SNow was a major force for sustainability at MSU by establishing dining roomcomposting and working for ways that MSU could reduce fossil fuel use. SNow - the organization that she founded - has continued to be a valued partner for Gallatin Valley EarthDay by helping us reach out to the MSU campus. After graduating from MSU, I was equally impressed with her ability to build community when working with Forward Montana - aparticipating organization in our Gallatin Valley Earth Day festival. And recently, I noted her professional handling of the City of Bozeman Sustainability Board meeting when I attended last month. In summary, not only does Emma possess leadership qualities in spades, but - mostimportantly - she has a clear vision of the direction that our city could and should go to protect what makes this place so special and guide it to become an even better place to live. Emma isnot only sensitive to pressing issues like affordable housing, but also she has a vision for the larger, long-term picture - that we need to embrace ways to promote sustainable use of ourland, water, and protect our precious flora and fauna by protecting sensitive land areas and creating wildlife corridors. This is so crucial, because without this clear vision we will not getto where we need to go. As we quickly grow and develop into a larger metropolitan area, now is the time for leadership that can direct this growth in a responsible way.
