Mayor Cunningham, Deputy Mayor Morrison, and Commissioners Madgic and Fischer, I'm writing to encourage you to appoint Alison Sweeney to fill the open commissioner position. I believe it is important to select a woman for this position to achieve appropriategender balance. Among the several strong women candidates, I believe Allison is the best overall choice. I've come to know Alison through her work with the Better Bozeman Coalition, and I havewatched her providing comments at City Commission meetings on many occasions. I'm very impressed with not only her remarkable capabilities but also her unfailingly civil andrespectful demeanor. Allison is invariably well-informed, conscientious, reasonable, well- spoken, and deeply committed to making Bozeman a better place. She also is a very hardworker. Allison understands the urgent need for affordable housing in our community. However, she also understands the importance of balancing this need with the imperative of preservingBozeman's historic character, protecting our urban forest, and meeting the goals in Bozeman's climate plan. Allison would be a strong addition to the Commission and a good complement tothe existing commissioners. She also would represent an age group that is currently missing on the Commission--the millennial generation. I strongly urge you to consider appointing Allisonto the Commission. Sincerely, Will Swearingen For example, I see historic preservation policy as a way to manage change, not prevent it.
