Carty - 2024 City Commission Appointment_ Support for Alison SweeneyFrom:Daniel Carty To:Bozeman Public Comment Subject:[EXTERNAL]2024 City Commission Appointment: Support for Alison Sweeney Date:Tuesday, May 28, 2024 7:34:35 AM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. May 28, 7:35am I am writing to ask the Bozeman City Commision to appoint Alison Sweeney to the vacantCity Commission seat. My reasons for making this request are as follows: I first met Alison in fall 2023 at a Unified Development Code (UDC)-related public meeting. Since then, I have learned that Alison is deeply committed to protecting Bozeman’shistorical character and sense of place while ensuring Bozeman remains the most livable place for all. Alison regularly attends City Commission and Citizen Advisory Board meetingsand offers thoughtful public comment, advocating for: 1. Natural resources, including ecological function and ecosystem services 2. Environmental sustainability, including residential solar power and climate resilience3. Truly affordable housing for renters (e.g., municipal housing authority) and future homeowners4. Historical preservation, including in the downtown core 5. Neighborhood-friendly growth policy in all parts of the City6. Diversity, equity, and inclusion for the people who live here now and for the people who will live here in the future Alison has the ability to wade through the City’s UDC (current and proposed update), distill the code, and then explain in plain language the strengths and weaknesses of the code. Moreover, Alison is adept at researching, distilling, and explaining the pros and cons of what other municipalities in the U.S. have done while attempting to deal with rapid growth. Finally, if appointed, Alison has committed to work full time as a City Commissioner. Such afull-time commitment is essential for any new Commissioner who hopes to effectively address the myriad and complex issues facing the City now and into the foreseeable future. To conclude: On Jun 4, 2024, please appoint Alison Sweeney to the Bozeman CityCommission. Sincerely, Daniel Carty 213 N. Third AveBozeman, MT 59715 dgc12@hotmail.com406-548-2810
