Hello Commissioners, While first reading the front page chronicle article this morning I had a certain building sight in mind; behind the larger building on main street where South 8th T's into it...Oh that's a good place to put a tall building, it's not hostile to any neighborhoods. But then I kept reading... it's proposed for the NORTH WEST corner of 8th and Mendenhall!!! Noooooooo!!! The old Starlight signs building! And right next to an existing residential neighborhood in Midtown. I swear those guys are getting clobbered! This makes me want to cry. That building would be the coolest adapt and reuse project ever! We really shouldn't betearing those types of things down. Think of the embodied energy, but also the numerous cool possibilities for reuse. And I'm guessing the shallow incentives departures for light and air isso they can scoot the building right up next to that cute little house to the North. See the attached photo. They'll never see the sun again. We have to stop doing this! Zone edge transitions would help. Historic preservation can't help here, because it's not in the NCOD. The starlight signsbuilding hasn't been surveyed. Plus the new building is ugly as heck, can we get these architects a new spreadsheet my goodness. We are killing the golden goose of Bozeman's charm for nothing. Market rate housing nobodywho lives and works here can afford. 5 affordable units. Not even very affordable. Where is the community benefit in this project? Ugh... my heart is breaking! Not a great way to start the day. Alison B.
