Dear Mayor Cunningham, Deputy Mayor Morrison, Commissioners Madgic and Fischer,
I'm writing to ask that you do not grant Miller Global a variance from the Affordable
Housing Ordinance, wherein they would give or purchase land for the city in exchange for twoextra floors of luxury condos. The affordable housing ordinance states that the incentives
happen within the same building. This is very important. We cannot let the wealthy have thedesirable portion of town in exchange for housing our workforce, out of sight. Communities
are strong when there is a variety of income levels within each neighborhood. This variancewould set a bad precedent. The doughnut around downtown is already losing lower income
residents. While we can't control market forces we can affect some level of equitable housingthrough zoning.
