Promotion Basics for Writers with Caitlin Hamilton

These days, agents want authors to have “platforms.” Once accepted for publication,
authors are expected to assist with publicity. But how? Veteran book
publicity/marketing expert Hamilton Summie walks writers through the basics of book
publicity—the publication landscape, what a platform is, defining your audience—to
help you create and celebrate your writing successes. (This workshop is aimed at
authors who haven't yet released a book, but can also be helpful for those with new
books in the works.)
The Montana Arts Council is proud to host Hamilton Summie for this online workshop,
offered twice, for Montana writers. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited, and
participants must be over 18 years old. Dates are:
May 16th, 12 noon – 1:30 PM
May 22nd, 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Caitlin Hamilton Summie is the former Marketing
Director of MacMurray & Beck and of BlueHen
Books/Penguin Putnam, where she directed all publicity,
hardcover & paperback. During this time she also
directed and handled sales nationwide for MacMurray &
Beck.
In 2003, she founded Caitlin Hamilton Marketing &
Publicity, LLC, an independent book publicity and
marketing firm working in fiction, mystery, memoir,
children’s books, and history. Caitlin has launched Susan
Vreeland, Emily St. John Mandel, William Gay, Kim
Church, Bren McClain, and many more.
