Boyle - Biking on the SidewalkCustomer Submission #CS-24-251 Open Created on April 23, 2024 by Alasdair Boyle Description Biking on the sidewalk is perceived as safer as there is more distance, and a physical object between the bike and vehicles. Aside from being against city code above the age of 16, biking on the sidewalk is actually more dangerous as the biker is closer to intersections which limits their visibility when approaching intersections, the sidewalk is also an irregular place for bike speed and oen goes overlooked by drivers. This is why one would assume the city does not allow biking on the sidewalk in the code. The bigger issues is that the new roundabouts go against city code and guide bikers onto the sidewalk which not only puts them at risk, but will set them up for failure if they strike a pedestrian, or are hit crossing the street because they will be violating city code. The city code is for this situation is valid and will help keep citizens safe, violating the code and guiding bikers onto the sidewalk gets bikers used to riding where they are more at risk and creates confusion for vehicles and bikers which is unsafe. Bikes should and have always been treated as vehicles on the road, and asking them to change their modality to move though intersections will not be adopted and Assigned to Alex Newby (Deactivated) Collaborator/s Mike Maas Due By 04/26/2024 Submission Age 1 Day Attachments 0 Customer Messages 0 Internal Comments 0 Tasks 0 Source Internal by Alasdair Boyle Category Public Comment Department Clerk's Office Customer Name Alasdair Boyle Customer Email boyle.alasdair@gmail.com Cell Phone - 4/24/24, 12:08 PM about:blank about:blank 1/4 creates unsafe situations.
