Subject: HPB meeting, Apr 17, 2024, 6pm, City Hall
I am writing to comment on two topics under the purview of the HPB (as follows):
(1) Re the nominees for the 2024 Historic Preservation Awards, Landscape Category,which are (a) the ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa, Montana state tree)—presumably the120 to 150-year-old ponderosa pine located on the lot at 507 West Main St (NW corner ofMain St and N. Fifth Ave) and (b) the residential project at 510 W. Story St. The rules state
that the recipient may be either an individual or an organization.
I support the ponderosa pine to receive the award as "an individual"; however, I assume therules actually refer to an individual person or an organization. If individual person is, in fact,
the case, then I support the property owner of 510 W. Story St. to receive the award.
(2) Heritage Tree Program: Although not on the Apr 17 agenda, I continue to support theHPB developing a Heritage Tree Program that would include individual trees, stands of
trees, and groves of trees on both public and private lands.
