Members of the Commission: I am writing in support of Ordinance 2159 which adds bike lanes to the listof places where it's inappropriate for someone to store their vehicle. I can attest that when a vehicle is parked in the bike lane it forces me into the vehicle lane and into a situation where I'm forced to hope that anyonecoming up quickly behind me is paying attention—all of which defeats the purpose of having a bike lane. It's always a little scary. Increasing participation in cycling for transportation depends in large measure on making cycling safe and comfortable for a broader range of users, and thisordinance is a step in that direction. I urge its adoption. Delivery vehicles are common (though by no means the only) culprit. In the event that bike lanes were ever installed downtown, the city mightalso—at the same time—think of establishing pick up and drop off zones for ride hailing apps might also want to implement a curb management strategy with designated zones for delivery vehicles. Creating a space where delivery vehicles can make pick ups and drop offs withoutencroaching on a bike lane will aid enforcement of this ordinance.
