We moved here 7 years ago from Tacoma Washington, having grown up in the Pacific Northwest our entire lives. We watched beautiful areas become high-density, ‘affordable’ cities that lacked safety and community and the affordability that the city officials promised. We are of the Bozeman middle-class who have good jobs and can’t afford a house. To say that $1600 for 400-600sq ft apartment with hot plates is meeting a need lacks tremendous compassion or sense of reality. Would you like to live in a place like this? Would you be able to afford it if you lost a job? Can you raise a family in such a place? We could use an affordable place to live, but I see, according to the plans for this place, that the Guthrie is future depression and enslavement to a slummy overpriced room for people who are actually in great need. You’re not solving any problems, you’re creating more. Look to the failures of cities who have already done what you are proposing to find wisdom on how to proceed for all the people of Bozeman.
