Hello Commissioners & City Planners,
It was surprising to read about the updates to the Guthrie project planned for 321 N 5th Ave,and how much those plans differ from the "affordable housing" project as it was initially
presented. I rent one unit of a two unit home that was built in 1900, less than two blocks awayfrom this project. I love where I live; even though my rented house does not come with off-
street parking, I can usually find a spot right outside. That is, unless there's a big downtownevent going on, and then it's good luck to everyone like me who rents and doesn't have a
driveway.
111 dorm room style units that can each hold 4 bunk beds does not sound like affordablehousing to me. 30 parking spaces is not enough to keep 300+ cars parked when everyone is
"home". This project sounds like a short-term hotel for people who don't plan to be in townvery long. When I read that these units don't even come with the security of year-long leases,
the project became even more concerning.
I truly hope that the public comment you've received about this project will make you thinkagain about how this could impact Bozeman and the safety of the students of Whittier
Elementary School.
Please do not approve the Guthrie project. It is not what was initially presented and will domore harm than good to my neighborhood and Bozeman. If affordable family housing is what
is needed in Bozeman, then please work with a developer who will provide affordable familyhousing (along with adequate parking) instead of short-term worker housing that benefits the
developer and no one else.
