Dear Bozeman City Commissiners;Thank you for reading this email. We live at 222 S 13th Ave in Bozeman.
For the record, we are vehemently opposed to the proposed Guthrie Building at 5th andVillard being proposed by Homebase Partners. Andy Hallorin professes this building to be
providing "affordable" units. This is insulting to the average bears intelligence. And the
residents of Bozeman are tired of being insulted by Homebase Partners. Homebase
partners are set to get, via deep incentives, what has been stated in other writings as
a $4,380,000 community parking benefits. WHY? The proposed development is next
to a primary school in a neighborhood comprised mostly of single family homes.
There already is NOT enough parking. How is this happening? This process is
flawed.
And this flawed “deep incentive” process, makes it so the development goes through
unchallenged, or said another way, does not allow Bozeman citizen review, it seems
fast tracked through administrative channels, supervised solely by Anna Bentley, the
other City Employee that was is the recently released video with the fired city
manager. She really needs to recuse herself from this project. Or the Acting City
Manager needs to take her off this project until the new city manager is hired. As a
side note, it seems interesting that after that video was released, she is still in city
employment! So it’s curious how she is able to make these crucial decisions all the
while bypassing the usual commission review.
Elected members of the city commission, we implore you to reclaim your
development review authority. Please! Based on the rampant development of the past
13 years, that clearly has not provided any more affordable housing.
It is time for the city commission to be in charge of the initial implementation of the
deep incentives. The way the deep incentives have been given to the Guthrie project
seems irrational and reckless. Please consider changing the process for the
commission to be in charge of the approval process
Thank you for your dedication and hard work.
Sincerely
Patty McGown and Nels Curnow
