I am emailing to let you know that I am fully against the development of what will
be called "the Guthrie." I live one block from the disaster that is the
destruction of the Medical Arts Complex (MAC), and can only imagine that this
same developer will finagle every bad decision that is in our city code, to his
benefit.
1. The idea that $1600.00/month is "affordable" for the average Bozeman
worker is ludicrous. Maybe on your salary, but come on! And that's for a single -
what I've read is that it would be less than 400 sqft. Again, ludicrous. As well
as stupid and inhumane. Yes, we want people to work for us, but we certainly
don't want them to live with us.
2. Where will the building materials be stored during construction? Not sure
where they are stored for the MAC, but they are not on-site. I know this
because several times/day, there is a forklift running up and down Villard, leaving
empty and returning full of supplies. Many time, pieces of stuff fall and they
leave them in the street. On Saturday, the driver blew the intersection at
Villard and Black and two large pieces of plastic strip fell off. My husband
collected them and took them down to the work site. No one spoke to him. So,
yes, you'll be trashing yet another neighborhood.
3. Where will the workers be staged so that they aren't clogging up the
neighborhood? Around here, they just park all over the neighborhood.
Thankfully, with very few exceptions, they are all nice guys. In the beginning
though, I had to put notes on windows explaining that, while yes, they had a pick
up, we COULD park two cars in the space they'd deemed for only one. Only took
about two months to teach them how to park.
4. how many parking spaces are there going to be for renters? If Halloran has
his way, he'll give you a bike rack and get to take a couple dozen out of the plan.
There are so many more problems with this, and Halloran cannot be trusted to
look outside of his own wallet. I don't know any of you personally, but I've seen
so many bad ideas come out of your meetings, that I am seriously concerned.
Remember that we all live here too.
Sincerely,
Kathy France
