Dear City of Bozeman Commissioners,
I’m writing to express several concerns about the development being proposed at the corner of N. 5th Ave and
Villard—The Guthrie Project—and to ask that you reclaim authority to review the project yourselves rather than
leaving it to one planner to decide.
As I understand it, Homebase plans to build a structure with 111 units but will only be required to provide 28
parking spots. Why would we ask the nearby residents to absorb the burden of all of those additional vehicles rather
than requiring the developer to adjust their design to fit the character and affordances of the neighborhood?
Second, why, when our need is for affordable housing for Bozeman residents, are we incentivizing housing for
Homebase’s transient workforce? Letting this project take advantage of well-intentioned incentives is a mistake.
I hope that the City Commission, who acts on behalf of this city's residents, will act in the best interest of the
residents rather than the best interests of one company’s profits. I urge you to reclaim authority and carefully review
this project.
Sincerely,
Jess Carroll
