Dear Mayor Cunningham and City Commissioners,
I am writing to urge you to take-on the review and approval or denial of theproposed Guthrie building. If I am right, the Guthrie building is the first majordevelopment in the near downtown core area to make use of the city's "deepincentive" package. Comprised of over 100 residential units, the Guthrie is asignificant project that will have considerable impacts on the infrastructure andcharacter of the surrounding neighborhood.
As late as the year 2000, I believe, the city commission reviewed and approved (ordenied) fences proposed for front and side yards of single-family residences locatedin the conservation overlay district. Such a high level of scrutiny might seem bizarrewhen placed in today's context, but it might also be taken as a reminder of Bozemanresidents' regard for the quality of neighborhoods, our love for and pride in place.
Given the fact that the Guthrie is the first major project to make use of the "deepincentives," and owing to the significant precedent that this first major project tomove through the "shallow and deep" incentive program will set, I urge you to claimreview authority over this project. Please make known to the public whether or notyou regard the Guthrie to be a good standard bearer for this new program by puttingthe project under your review.
Thank you and warm regards,
Steve Kirchhoff
