My name is Rose Cain, and I am writing to you today with a heart fullof concern about our beloved neighborhood, particularly in regards to the upcomingdevelopment of The Guthrie. As an elder in our neighborhood, I've seen the ebb and flowof life in our community, and I feel compelled to share my worries about the potentialimpact this particular development may have on our safety and well-being. In my day, getting children safely to school was of utmost importance. With thedevelopment of The Guthrie on the horizon, I worry about the challenges it may bring forour young ones, especially those attending Whittier Elementary. Parking has always beentight in our area, and I fear it will only worsen with construction. Limited space for buses tomaneuver, compounded by parked cars along Villard Avenue, raises serious safetyconcerns. Maneuvering onto North 6th Street amidst traffic and parked cars is alreadydifficult, and I fear it will become even more treacherous with The Guthrie's development. Our children's safety should always come first. As an elder, I've come to understand the importance of timely access to emergencyservices. The presence of emergency responder vehicles accessing the Birthing Centeradds another layer of concern. Quick, unobstructed access is vital for saving lives, yet Iworry that the congestion from The Guthrie's development may hinder their ability toreach those in need. It's a troubling thought that weighs on my mind. While The Guthrie's construction has not yet begun, the potential for future challenges isclear. The addition of new residences without proper consideration for parking and trafficflow could strain our community's resources and compromise our safety. It is my sincerehope that we address these concerns before they escalate further. In closing, I urge the Commission to listen to the voices of our community, particularlythose of us who have lived here for many years. Our experiences and concerns arevaluable, and we deserve to be heard. Let us work together to find solutions that prioritizethe safety and well-being of all residents, young and old alike. Thank you for your attention to these matters. I appreciate your dedication to serving ourcommunity and trust that you will consider my concerns with care. The busses need enough room to get toWhittier, if there are cars parked on Villard as parking was limited over a year ago, whenthey added a turn lane on Villard to turn, left or right as well as straight. Then when comingoff of Villard and turning left onto North 6th from North 7th, when there are cars parkedbothsides of 6th and traffic going South on 6th, plus added issues when snow is on thestreet. You have to stop and pull over for the busses with no room. Also need towatch for walking students and parents coming out of school. Bicycles have to be taken intoaccount with safety and room to maneuver. 2.With the BirthingCenter on the Corner of Villard and 6th being an issue as they have Emergency Respondersvehicles come and go to their business as needed either to their parking lot (if not full) orstreet parking. Thank you for checking these out, Iappreciate any and all input you can share with me.
