When I read that the commission approved relaxation of building height requirements and parking requirements the
first thought that came to mind was, “are they nuts?” Commissioners, you clearly need to physically get out and
observe what goes on at the campus parking wise. Today, right this very, minute MSU has more students with
vehicles than parking spaces … it has been that way for as long as I have lived here … 18 years. MSU parking spills
into neighborhoods, businesses, etc. It has resulted in the creation of street parking restrictions to protect residents
near the campus. MSU doesn’t need a break. What it needs is to be held accountable for the negative situations it
has created around our city which include, parking issues and stress on the housing market. You see, while MSU has
an undergrad population of 14,000 it can only house around 4000. The rest get dumped out into the economy and
that has undeniably contributed to the extreme cost of rental housing in Bozeman. Case in point, at one point in time
the 3 bedroom 2 bath house across the street from mine had 5- vehicles associated with it … none of them in the
driveway and 1-2 parked in front of my house. You need to reconsider your decision. MSU does not need a break, it
needs to be reeled in. It is an elephant in the room.
