Date: Mar 21, 2024; Time: 10:50am To: Sustainability Board Subject: FYI/Discussion Item F.1: Sustainability Board's CYs 2024-2025 Work PlanFinalization I am writing to ask the Sustainability Board (SB) to add a specific work plan item titled Water Conservation, which would fit under Focus Area 1: Climate Planning. My reasons forasking for this specific work plan item are as follows: First, and perhaps most important: During the last 10 min of the SB's Feb 14, 2024 meeting, a majority of the board members present (three of five) expressed interest inadding Water Conservation to the SB's CYs 2024-2025 Work Plan (https://bozeman.granicus.com/player/clip/2218?view_id=1&redirect=true and start at approximately 3 h 7 min elapsed time). Consequently, I think the SB board members should be allowed to vote Yes or No to add Water Conservation as a specific work planitem to the board's currently proposed CYs 2024-2025 Work Plan. Second: During the next decade, one of the City’s most formidable challenges will be to ensure that its finite water supply is not exceeded by the demands placed on it byresidential and commercial developments. Water conservation measures outlined in the City's Water Conservation and Efficiency Plan 2023 can help in this regard—but thesemeasures will not be enough to prevent the City from eventually "running out of water." Ultimately, the City's finite water supply will dictate the carrying capacity of its humanpopulation, and the City must begin preparing for this eventuality sooner rather than later. If allowed, the SB can play an important role in helping the City to maximize its waterconservation efforts and to prepare for the day when it "runs out of water."
