The best thing for older homes in Bozeman would be to protect them as affordable housing. That's their highest and best use for this community. Next would be to try and move them to be used as housing elsewhere. However, if they must come down, this could be a great way to salvage the materials. Possible donation to the ReStore? Rob Evans with CSI was actually using salvaged materialsto build tiny homes for a while. The company has an impressive "bone yard". I would love to see something like this San Antonio ordinance instituted in Bozeman. Homes built 50 years ago or more used true dimensional lumber and other quality building materialsthat should be salvaged or recycled. Prevent these resources going to our landfill. The programs work best if licensed contractors, trained in deconstruction, are mandated by the city ordinance/code. You can learn a bit about their program here:https://www.sareuse.com/deconstruction We should also explore increasing dumpster fees in connection with residential tear down of older homes. Thanks for your service and consideration of these ideas! Alison B. SweeneyBernadette's Handmade Jewelry Bozeman MT406-404-5740 alison-bernadettes.com
