Dear Mayor Cunningham,
I wish to bring to your attention a broken city process that is adversely affecting one of
Bozeman's long-standing business gems and its customers and generating unnecessary
animosity toward city managers. The Western Cafe, located at 443 E Main Street, opens daily
at 6am and used to open at 5am. I have dined there for many years before lam,the end of the
city-posted 2am-7am parking curfew. Until Monday, 4 March, I have never been ticketed for
violating that otherwise not inappropriate curfew.
By 6am that snowy Monday morning, roads had been cleared once already allowing for around
a half-dozen patrons to park there to grab an iconic breakfast at Western Cafe. Out of the blue
came the announcement from cafe staff that cars were being ticketed. Legal?Of course.
Appropriate and necessary? Not in the least.
Please commend the traffic officer for doing his job but either instruct him to, in the future,
ignore cars parked by patrons supporting Bozeman businesses open along main street between
6am and 7am, or change the signage.
