March 5, 2024Program Updates Upcoming Opportunities Stormwater Centers of Excellence Grant: The U.S. EnvironmentalProtection Agency is announcing the availability of $3 million in grant funding through the new Centers of Excellence for Stormwater Control Infrastructure Technologies Grant Program. The Centers of Excellence will play an importantrole in conducting research and providing technical assistance to state, Tribal,and local governments to support stormwater infrastructure improvementsthat protect public health, safeguard the environment, and increase climateresilience. Approximately $3 million in grant funding will support three to fiveawards to establish and maintain regional Centers of Excellence forStormwater Infrastructure Technologies. Funding will also support one awardto create and maintain a national electronic clearinghouse that containsinformation relating to new and emerging stormwater control infrastructure technologies. Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, research institutions, and nonprofit organizations. Click here for more information Deadline to Apply is March 18, 2024 Community Change Grant: EPA’s new Environmental and ClimateJustice Community Change Grants program (Community Change Grants) will invest approximately $2 billion in Inflation Reduction Act funds in environmental and climate justice activities to benefit disadvantagedcommunities through projects that reduce pollution, increase communityclimate resilience, and build community capacity to respond to environmentaland climate justice challenges. These place-based investments will befocused on community-driven initiatives to be responsive to community andstakeholder input. EPA expects most awards will be between $10-20 millionfor multi-faceted projects addressing a range of pollution, climate change,and other priority issues. This meetingis open to all community members, rights holders and partners in Colorado,Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming and 28 tribal nations. At this virtual event we will discuss technical assistance available, an indoor air purifier program, resources to manage EPA grants, and spotlightinnovative projects throughout EPA Region 8. The event will also allowattendees to speak with EJ program staff, Regional 8’s RegionalAdministrator, and other collaborators to ask questions, highlight concerns,and learn more about EJ program updates. Some U.S. states have established numeric water quality criteria for nutrients to protect surface waters. However, monitoringto determine if criteria are being met is limited by resources and time. EPA’sNutrient Explorer can help managers locate and prioritize areas wherenutrients in surface waters are predicted to exceed certain water qualitythresholds. Nutrient Explorer is a downloadable tool for modeling relationships between watershed land use, climate, and other variables and surface water nutrient concentrations.
