Many cities in the US have 311 lines for non-emergency service access and for reporting small city issues such as
potholes. The latter are ubiquitous in town and the former is very important for community and for access to
essential services for our increasingly economically vulnerable citizens. In that and other lights, the city of Bozeman
(or Gallatin County, whichever level is more appropriate) should open and operate a 311 line to better essential city
operations and citizen access. Models in large cities are easy to find, but smaller towns we may model include
Redmond, WA and Terre Haute, IN and Newton, MA. The Western Transportation Institute may have further input
for how we may create a 311 and be an innovator in small-town civic service.
