Lead Service Line Community Training
The Montana Department of Commerce's Community MT Division’s
Community Technical Assistance Program (CTAP), and the Montana
Department of Environmental Quality will host a virtual training on Thursday,
February 29, 2024, at 9 a.m. to share information regarding community
applications for funding and technical assistance for completion of the Lead
Service Line (LSL) inventory. This training will be recorded and posted on
the LSL Technical Assistance Program page.
The federal government requires each state to complete an LSL inventory.
People can be exposed to lead in drinking water through lead pipes. There
is no safe level of lead for human consumption; the number of LSLs in
Montana is not fully known. The LSL inventory must be completed by
October 16, 2024.

CTAP technical assistance will help service providers and communities plan
for LSL projects, and support community water systems and non-transient
non-community water systems in applying for additional funding for
completing inventory activities and replacement or mitigation of LSL. The
goal of LSL technical assistance is to support as many small systems
(serving less than 10,000 persons) as possible with the development of LSL
inventories, LSL replacement plans and/or LSL replacements.
Applications for the LSL Technical Assistance Program are now being
accepted. Please join the conversation on Thursday, February 29 at 9 a.m.
to learn more.
