Date: Feb 14, 2024; Time: 10:05am To: Sustainability Board and Jon Henderson, City Staff Liaison to Sustainability BoardSubject: CYs 2024-2025 Work Plan; Urban Tree Equity (Bozeman Climate Plan 6.P.2 Maintain and Expand the Urban Forest) I am writing to ask the Sustainability Board to keep Urban Tree Equity (i.e., BozemanClimate Plan 6.P.2 Maintain and Expand the Urban Forest) on its work plan for CYs 2024- 2025. I agree in principle with Bozeman Climate Plan 6.P.2 and what is currently written under About the Action, What We're Working On, and What's Next: https://bozemanclimateplan.clearpointstrategy.com/regenerative-greenspace-food-systems- and-natural-environment/maintain-and-expand-the-urban-forest/. I would add that, whenever possible, emphasis should be placed on (1) maintainingexisting, mature trees—especially those trees native to Montana and the Gallatin Valley, (2) recognizing the importance of dying and dead trees to wildlife (especially native birds), and(3) replanting with tree species native to Montana and the Gallatin Valley. Also, I would ask the Sustainability Board to add to its proposed CYs 2024-2025 work plan an item under which the Sustainability Board would suggest code-language changes to theproposed UDC update to enhance the protection of Bozeman's urban forest on both public and private lands. Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Daniel Carty213 N. Third Ave. Bozeman, MT 59715 dgc12@hotmail.com406-548-2810
