Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioners:
In the past few years the loss of trust between the public and the Commission and between the public and the
professional staff has been extreme and not only due to the City Manager’s frank opinions of us being made public.
If these views had been expressed during his job interview, would you have hired him? I doubt it. So do not “re-
hire” him now.
More important than his attitudes are his, and your, actions during his tenure. It was under his watch that our city’s
culture of community involvement through long established advisory boards was destroyed. You, and he, also
developed a UDC totally unfit for our city and contrary to the public’s often expressed input. His failures to address
the proliferating street people are your failures. His failures to engender trust and confidence in valuable staff that
we lost during his tenure, are your failures.
His eyerolling about our “small town shit” has destroyed any tiny bit of remaining trust between the public and the
city.
No one doubts that if you keep him, not only will he continue to glide effortlessly towards his pension and “eff you
money” but also retaliate against those who have taken a stand for our city against this unprofessionalism.
We have been given a gift, to see ourselves as the City Manager sees us. He’s revealed as the guy you have had in
charge of our city. Shame on you. Admit your mistakes and make changes.
