Dear Bozeman City Commissioners,
As I walked around the North side of Bozeman this past weekend, I was devastated by thenon-descript high-rise community the North side is becoming. We've lost much of the
bungalow charm, the affordable housing represented by multi-family housing and two-storyapartment buildings, and the former historical character of the important working-class
neighborhoods. As I look to the future I see this trend continuing throughout the whole Northside if we don't do something to protect these neighborhoods now. I encourage you to support
the Bozeman Historic Preservation Board and their recommendations for the coming year. Ialso hope you continue to support Sarah Rosenberg and the team she's hired to create and
strengthen Bozeman's historic preservation plan. This community has vibrancy due to its historical character, that is why people want to move
here and live here. If we lose that historical character, our town will become less attractive tonewcomers and to those who reside here, losing economic value. As you rewrite the UDC,
please keep this in mind and consider setbacks that are more neighborhood friendly. If youwant to understand the impact of a poor setback, just stand at the south end of the Tracy
Historic District facing the Henry building and you'll immediately understand that bettertransitioning is crucial.
Thank you for your time in reading this, and please consider your responsibility indetermining how tearing down historical properties (that are often affordable and house
multiple families) and building 5-6 story condo complexes that are unaffordable and housefewer year-long residents will impact the community of Bozeman in the future. Please support
the changes to the UDC that will help you enforce these values. Sincerely,
Crystal Alegria191 Arcadia Lane, Bozeman, MT
