Dear Bozeman City Commissioners,
I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed Bozeman Pipeline and the idea of
conducting a study to determine the feasibility of obtaining water for Bozeman from CanyonFerry. Not only would the pipeline itself be an incredible cost, this idea further perpetuates
unsustainable growth in our valley.
There is a carrying capacity for this valley and we are obviously reaching the threshold, if wehaven't passed it already. We need to be more stringent with the already existing water
restrictions, put even more pressure on developers to put in a higher percentage of droughttolerant landscapes rather than sod, and if needed, institute some sort of moratorium on
growth.
We need to start adopting policies that encourage city residents to live within the means of thisenvironment. In my opinion, a pipeline is the epitome of 'forcing function'. In other words,
implementing infrastructure that does not harmonize with the climate/region and whose costfar exceeds the benefit that it provides.
I strongly encourage the City to consider other, less costly and more environmentally sound
options.
Sincerely, Kareen Erbe
