Subject: Proposed Ferguson Farm II P.U.D. Subdivision
Legal Description: Lot 5, Minor Subdivision No. 295
Dear Mr. Stein,
Referencing your letter received December 31, 2018 concerning the evaluation of the subject subdivision.
Bozeman Public Schools would expect that the proposed 73-lot Urban Mixed Use (UMU) development
would not generate any students. This assumption is based on the nature of the indicated zoning
designation along with the developer’s intent to create short term housing accommodations.
Please let us know if there are any changes to the proposed development as this could modify the above
student projections.
Sincerely,
Todd Swinehart, PE

RE: PROPOSED FERGUSON FARMS II SUBDIVISION, GALLATIN COUNTY. SHPO Project #: 2021090902
Dear Mr. Krueger:
I have conducted a cultural resource file search for the above-cited project located on Section 10, T2S R5E. According
to our records there have been no previously recorded sites within the designated search locale. However, there have
been a few previously conducted cultural resource inventories done in the areas. I’ve attached a list of these reports. If
you would like any further information regarding these reports, you may contact me at the number listed below.
It is SHPO’s position that any structure over fifty years of age is considered historic and is potentially eligible for listing
on the National Register of Historic Places. If any structures are within the Area of Potential Effect, and are over fifty
years old, we would recommend that they be recorded, and a determination of their eligibility be made prior to any
disturbance taking place.
As long as there will be no disturbance or alteration to structures over fifty years of age, we feel that there is a low
likelihood cultural properties will be impacted. We, therefore, feel that a recommendation for a cultural resource
inventory is unwarranted at this time. However, should structures need to be altered or if cultural materials be
inadvertently discovered during this project, we would ask that our office be contacted, and the site investigated.
If you have any further questions or comments, you may contact me at (406) 444-7767 or by e-mail at
dmurdo@mt.gov. I have attached an invoice for the file search. Thank you for consulting with us.
Sincerely,
Damon Murdo

Thanks for the further information.
I’m pretty certain that the proposed sky bridges would not need fire protection, but be sized appropriately for numbers
of occupants exiting if a required exit pathway.
Good question for the architect doing the overall code analysis.

Hi Scott,
The sky bridge will be connected to adjacent buildings with occupancy. We are at preliminary plat phase, so not
a ton of detail on that, but each individual building would have the option to connect to the elevated walkway.
It will be open air with no roof. See attached schematic plans.

Interesting question Tim,
A few questions for you,
-Is the sky bridge connected to buildings with occupancies? Or is it connected solely by its own stair towers
with no connection to occupancy buildings?
-Confirming this would be an enclosed sky bridge? Mechanically vented and climate controlled.
Comments:
-Alley/street clearance height of 18 feet is acceptable
-As if fire suppression would be required, that relays back to above questions. Possible if these are required
horizontal exits from buildings.
-As for construction type, steel and concrete are always great for not needing suppression, but not the sole
factor for possible exceptions.
Let me know.

Hi Scott,
I am working with Mike Delaney on Ferguson Farm 2 subdivision (the 30 acre tract to the east of
Ferguson Farm Subdivision). He is proposing a pedestrian sky bridge that runs 1100 linear feet and
crosses 3 alleys and 1 local street. It will have 18’ minimum clearance at street crossings. If the
structure is made of metal and concrete will it need a fire suppression system?
