WEED CONTROL
Weed Management Nan for Proposed Subdivision Ferguson lFarins 2
Property Description
The subject property is a 31-acre parcel located in Bozeman, MT.Huffine Road comprises the south
boundary. Ferguson Road borders the property to the east with Fallon Street on the north and Resort
Drive on the west.
There are currently no structures on the property. Paved walking paths have been installed along the
lengths of the property on the south(Huffine)and east(Ferguson).
There is a ditch/creek with running water bisecting the property.A very small marsh or lake is located at
the northwest corner.A dense stand of cottonwoods and willows line the waterway. Small trees are also
located in the northwest corner near the lake. The balance of the property is treeless and covered with
grasses and weeds.
Property Weed Survey
The subject property was surveyed in the fall of 2018. Weeds were found throughout the
property but were most prevalent along the exterior margins, the creek/ditch and the west side
from the ditch to Resort Street (see diagram below, weed concentrations highlighted).

The non-highlighted interior of the property, which comprises approximately 10 of the 31 total
acres, has only scattered weeds visible.
It is apparent that soil disturbances due to the construction of surrounding roads, adjacent
development, and the walking paths has resulted in invasive weeds around the perimeter of the
property.
A small stand of common tansy was found in the interior as well as numerous western salsify.
While salsify is an invasive weed it is not currently listed on Montana's noxious weed list.
Montana Noxious Weeds Noted in Survey
The primary noxious weeds found on the property include Canadian Thistle, Spotted Knapweed,
and Hoary Alyssum. Canadian Thistle is prominent along the creek and north and west borders
of the property. Additional Canadian thistle was found along Ferguson and between Huffine and
the south walking path.
Spotted knapweed was prevalent along the west and north sides of the property and spread
between the creek and Resort to the west.
Hoary Alyssum was found along the south and west walkways and throughout the west end.
A small patch of Common Tansy was noted in the interior of the property.
Other Invasive Weeds
The property also has Western Salsify, Flixweed, Kochia, mustards and some musk thistle.
Weed Management Plan
Due to the waterway and the small pond/marsh we would recommend an application of Dow
Milestone for control of the thistle and knapweed near the creek, pond and trees. Dow Milestone
can be applied up to waters edge and is less damaging to native forbs, shrubs and trees.
For the balance of the property we recommend Dow Chaparral combined with an Amine 2,4D
for improved control of the Common Tansy and Hoary Alyssum. Chaparral provides a broader
range of control including plants in the mustard family and tougher weeds such as tansy and
western salsify.
Application method and timing.
We recommend broadcast spraying the 21 acres containing the greatest concentration of weeds.
Stands of thistle and knapweed near and among the trees will require hand spraying with
Milestone. The balance of the interior property (10 acres) can likely be just spot sprayed for
visible weeds.
This application should be completed after May 15"' and before June 151h to maximize control of
the early emerging weeds such as Hoary Alyssum while providing control of thistle, knapweed
and tansy prior to bolting.
Application rates
Dow Milestone at 5 ounces per acre combined with a non-ionic surfactant at 1 pint per acre.
Dow Chaparral at 3 ounces per acre combined with an amine 2,41) at 1 Qt per acre and a non-
ionic surfactant
Years 2 and 3
After the first year of application we would expect a significant reduction in the weeds. This will
be dependent on the extent of the seed base, new soil disturbances and weather. A follow up
application will likely be required on most of the areas with the highest concentration of weeds.
By year 3 we would expect a spot spraying application will suffice to provide control of any
residual weeds or new infestations.
Cost
Year 1 —20 acres broadcast @$75/acre=$1500,4 hours hand spraying and spot spraying tree-line,
marsh/pond and interior 10 acres-$400—Total Year 1 =$1900.
Year 2—Estimated broadcast and spot spraying=$1200
Year 3 —Estimated four hours spot spraying-$400.
