Dear Commissioners, I was glad to see recently in the Bozeman Chronicle that additional funding has beenreceived to move forward with the Kagy update between Willson and 19th. This muchneed project will become a gateway to MSU and south Bozeman that we will all beproud of. I'm particularly heartened to see that pedestrian overpasses/underpassesare included near Bobcat Stadium, and that there will be dedicated bike paths. Wemust as a community continue to focus on safe pedestrian and bike connectivity asour community continues to grow. That said, there is an intersection just east of the project area that greatlyconcerns me. With the proposed Kagy rebuild project, crossing Kagy at Tracy andKagy will become ever more difficult and dangerous. It is difficult to get vehicles tostop for pedestrians at this intersection now. With better traffic flow coming from thewest, and more and more housing units being built SW of MSU Kagy will becomeeven more challenging for pedestrians and bicyclists crossing at Kagy and Tracy, andpoints further east. I strongly suggest you repurpose the blinking crosswalks that now are used on Kagy near the stadium and at 7th to increase the safety of the manyfolks who cross at Tracy headed for the trail system to the south or downtown. It is aheavily used foot and bike corridor now, and will be even busier as more and morefolks enjoy our great trail system. Another idea would be to lower the speed limit onthis stretch of Kagy to 25 mph instead of 35 mph. Simple measures (though I knownothing is simple or inexpensive!) can save lives and make our community morewelcoming and supportive to human powered travel. Thank you for what you do and thank you for your consideration of thesesuggestions. Please let me know if you have any questions.
